9/05/2003 - I'm back !!!! (sorry, no pictures this time!)

Here I was again... after fulfilling my dream to "try it once", I decided to go racing again. I even had a pit crew this time! My best friend Jason wanted to see how the old "Yota" would go on a racetrack. He had travelled in the car in it's previous life, when it had been my daily transportation. He affectionately had named it the "Pregnant Roller Skate."

We arrived at the track around 4pm, and just hung out in the hot sun gabbing with Toby Plummer and his crew. We saw some excitement even before racing had begun... looking roughly North, toward Shea Road (Wiscasset), we watched as a small plane did some crazy maneuvering. We thought for sure that we'd soon be calling 9-1-1 to report a plane crash, but the plane finally straightened out and flew off into the distance. Creepy stuff!

Jason was a tremendous help, changing tire pressures, logging race data, and assisting me with vehicle entry and exit. It sure is easier with someone else to help tighten the belts and hook the window net!

I tried some changes in setup this go-round. Downsizing my inside tires to achieve stagger, using 70 series tires, a little camber tilt on the right front, etc. The most important upgrade from last time: I no longer had my first race "jitters!"

I pushed the car a lot harder this event, although I still let off a little between turns 1 and 2 ("where does that wall end, anyway!") Jason got some rough lap times for me. "The Pack" was running about 19 second laps, and I was back in about the 23 second range. Still, not bad for only my second time on a track!

Many thanks to Jason for pitting for me, and also to Colby's for their ongoing assistance!
